America is the land of opportunity, if one is willing to work hard. It’s a nation fueled by risk-taking entrepreneurs and their great teams of employees.

And any business owner will tell you that their business is only as good as the people who work for them.

Judging by that premise alone, ROBAR is wildly successful.

I began this series introducing you to the Owner/President Freddie Blish.

Now I’d like to introduce you to someone who is nearing two decades of service at ROBAR, Leap “Henry” Heng.

Henry’s story is the American Dream, a story that begins 8,400 miles away in the country of Cambodia.

Henry was an accountant for the Cambodian government. But while working for the government, he uncovered corruption and decided he had to leave Cambodia for both personal and professional reasons.

He came to the United States in 1997, legally with a Visa, and applied for and received a green card. He then began the process to become a naturalized citizen, and in 2002 swore the oath of citizenship:

“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.”

Henry is extremely proud to be an American! He noted that America is THE best country “…because of our Freedom of Speech, our Freedom to own firearms, the Freedom of opportunity to become the best person that you can through hard work.”

Henry Heng diligently working his smithing magic on some pistols

When Heng first came to this country, he worked for Ping Golf Clubs, then worked for McMillan Rifles making fiberglass stocks, before coming on board with ROBAR.

When asked where he received his gunsmith training, Henry smiled and replied, “University of ROBAR. I have a Glock™ Professional Certificate, Combat Concealment Certificate, and an AR-15 POS Professional Certificate.”

Following up with a few more questions:

What is your favorite firearm and why?

Henry: Glocks™ are my favorite because I did my Glock™ grip reduction, 360° grip plus beavertail, high grip, forward cocking serrations, a smooth trigger job…it fits my hand perfectly!

What is your favorite firearm finish?

Henry: NP3 metal finish.

What do you like most about working at Robar?

Henry: Everything! [I like working with] Glocks™, pistols, rifles, shotguns, etc.

What firearm-related hobbies do you have?

Henry: I like to go to the range!

Freddie Blish commented on Henry:

Henry is a model employee: his incredible work ethic and professional attitude is one that everyone should emulate!

His meticulous attention to detail, coupled with his efficiency while working on the polymer frame grip reductions, additions of beavertails, frame modifications, and proprietary grip texturing makes ROBAR’s work done to Glocks™ and other polymer framed pistols second to none.

ROBAR has been perfecting polymer framed pistols for over 30 years, as a matter of fact, ROBAR was the first gunsmithing company to perform a grip reduction on a Glock™ pistol back in 1987. Henry has been a loyal and dedicated employee with ROBAR, “perfecting polymer pistols” for 19 of our 35 years.

Henry Heng has been perfecting Glocks™ and other firearms for the past 19 years and 7 months.

It’s employees like Henry who make ROBAR truly great: his gunsmithing is pure art and with each firearm customization, he grows the ROBAR reputation of excellence!

An example of Henry Heng’s Glock™ artistry

And in a broader sense, Henry Heng is exactly the type of immigrant we welcome with open arms to America: he did things legally and with an enthusiasm to be an American!

On a personal note, Henry worked on my Glock™ 19 Gen 3 (Grip Reduction w/Medium Texture, Front Strap Reduction – Remove Finger Grooves w/Medium Texture, High Grip Modification, Half Moon Cuts on bottom of frame, rounded and textured trigger guard, TangoDown/Vickers Slide Release plated with NP3, TangoDown/Vickers Magazine Release, TangoDown Gen 3 Polymer Trigger Shoe, Armorlube coated slide, NP3 barrel + internal steel parts of slide and frame, Trigger Smooth w/NP3 plated Minus Connector, Ameriglo Pro Sights w/Orange front sight) and it is a smoothing-running beauty. I will be sharing a picture soon (I want one that does it justice!).

Henry, I want to thank-you for your exceptional work on my Glock™ — it’s the envy of every shooting enthusiast and I will treasure it always!

With employees like Henry Heng, ROBAR’s reputation shines and ROBAR’s motto is realized:

Semper Vinco

And with new citizens like Henry Heng, America’s promise is realized and her Constitution is safe!
